Sony music entertainment
The company, which evolved into Sony Music, was founded in 1929 as the American Record Corporation (ARC) through the merger of several smaller record companies. In the depths of the Great Depression, the Columbia Phonograph Company (founded in 18880) in the U.S. (including its Okeh Records subsidiary) was acquired by ARC in 1934.
Then ARC was acquired in 1938 by the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) (which itself had been formed by the Columbia Phonograph Company, but then sold off). The Columbia Phonograph Company had international subsidiaries and affiliates such as the Columbia Graphophone Company in the United Kingdom, but they were sold off prior to CBS acquiring American Columbia Sony music entertaiment have been massive since the 1990s and have been the majour record label since then Sony renamed the record company Sony Music Entertainment (SME) on January 1, 1991, fulfilling the terms set under the 1988 buyout, which granted only a transitional license to the CBS trademark. The CBS Associated label was renamed Epic Associated. Also on January 1, 1991, to replace the CBS label, Sony reintroduced the Columbia label worldwide.
Warner Music Group (WMG)
Is the third largest business group and family of record labels in the recording industry, making it one of the big four record companies. For three decades the conglomerate was known as WEA, which stood for Warner Bros.-Elektra-Atlantic Records; three major record companies that signed and developed musical acts and, in turn, distributed product for subsidiaries and other record labels.
The current incarnation of the company as Warner Music Group was formed in 2004 when it was spun off and made completely separate from Time Warner as a result Time Warner no longer retains any ownership whatsoever in the Warner Music Group, despite its name. WMG also has a music publishing arm called Warner/Chappell Music, which is one of the world's largest music-publishing companies.
In May 2011, the company announced its sales to Access Industries Inc. The purchase of the company was completed on July 20, 2011.
Universal Music Group (UMG) is an American multinational music company. It is the largest of the "big four" record companies by its leading market share and its multitude of global operations. Universal Music Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of French media conglomerate Vivendi
Universal Music Group owns a music publisher, Universal Music Publishing Group, which became the world's largest following the 2007 acquisition of BMG Music Publishing.

Possible choices for our music video
Here is one choice for our Music video and in our view the most favourable. We have thought about going to London to shoot our video, we intend to film whilst going to a football match and all the days occurances.
This is Stardust- music sounds better with you. We have thought of this upbeat track we can go on a road trip through the country side and filming in Northern Ireland.

Analysis of a video
The video that I am analysing is Simian mobile disco VS Justice - We Are Your
Friends. The video belongs to the music genre of Electro / Psychedelic /
Alternative. This genre's broad characteristics include DJ sets with crowds and
bizarre storylines. The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals creates
an idea of irony. For example the lyrics state We Are Your Friends, whilst
simultaneously we view an individual experiencing a practical joke as a cat gets
thrown at him whilst asleep. The relationship between the visuals and the music
allows the cuts to be in time with the beat. There are no solo instrumental
sections as the video is all-visual around the concept. The video also changes
pace with the music; for example, through the build up there are less cuts and
longer shots. This happens during the section 1:00 minute to 1:32 minutes. The
use of the extraordinary concept of the video helps to sell this track, as it is
recognisable and extravagant. Also the combination of the two artists justice
and simian mobile disco combining, will have a considerable effect on the size
of the audience. Throughout the video there is no appearance from the actual
artists. However the audience can create an image of the artist after having
watched the video. As the artists are combined they have not released any
previous music videos together. The videos of simian mobile disco are however
eccentric and unusual for example "Its The Beat" roughly matches the style of
"We Are Your Friends". There are no specific motifs followed on from other
videos, as it is just a spontaneous video that is unrelated to any other work
done by either Justice or Simian Mobile Disco. Even though I would not say that
this brands them as achieving a new image, it can although be categorised with
some previous work. As the artist does not appear in the video they cannot have
been put on sexual display. Considering the other actors within the video there
is also no use of sexual display by male or female individuals. There are no
other factors within the video linking to the use of sexual display. This music
video is approximately 90% concept based and 10% narrative based. This is
because there is no performance and the whole video is shots of foolish tricks
performed to recovering individuals.
Conventions of a music video
A Music video is a short film integrating imagery and song, produced to promote a song and the artist. Music videos first came up during the 1980s. Music videos are made to promote a song or album as well as the artist in a appealing and interesting way, in order to make as many sales as possible. Most music videos tell a story or deliver a message, to embrace the audience and grab their attention, making them more interested in the song or album persuading them to buy it. Music videos are a good way for directors and film makers to express their creativity and passion. Music videos use a wide range of techniques and styles in order to promote their video such as animation and time-lapse and many more. Music videos also help the artist become famous as the video not only promotes their song, it also promotes their acting skills within the short video. Music videos are made to promote a song and its artist as well as promoting the director and sometimes products. Products are placed into music videos to help promote them. This is called product placement.
As discussed , the purpose of a music video is to encourage viewers to purchase a copy of the song featured and other products associated with the artist. to this end , the video needs to add something to the experience of hearing the song. though music video can be incredibly varied , there are some conventions that are evident across the genre .

The purpose of a music video
The purpose of a music video is to sell porducts, the most obvious of which is the song featured in the video. However , other connected products are also marketed by a music video. For example, the album the song is featured on, the film the song is part of the soundtrack for , an upcoming tour by the artist and merchandised like tshirts. However , music videos are an unusual form of marketing as they allow the audience full access to the product they are selling when a music video is shown , the audience is able to hear the song the video is for so they are getting the product that is being promoted. When other products are advertised. Such as a brand of coffee or an item of clothing , the advert suggests the product is desirable but the audience does not get to taste the coffee or where the clothes.
